LOVERS SESSIONS

Right now is the reason. Not a milestone. Not an occasion. Just the two of you in a place that matters, photographed by someone who is paying attention.

NO OCCASION NEEDED

Some couples come because they have never liked a photograph of themselves together. Some want to remember a chapter before it changes. Some are travelling. Some stay close to home. Some are celebrating nothing at all. Wanting time together is already enough.

Right now is a reason.

The awkward first ten minutes

Most people do not know what to do when a camera is pointed at them. They freeze, perform or reach for something they have seen other people do in photographs.

That is normal. Telling you to relax would only give you one more thing to get right.

Instead, I give you something concrete to pay attention to: a direction, a conversation or somewhere to walk. We begin with what is actually there and let the session find its rhythm.

The first ten minutes do not have to prove anything.

- WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS

What actually happens

I once taught a workshop for a group of wedding photographers. I placed a couple in good light and asked one of the photographers to pose them as perfectly as possible.

The more instructions they received, the stiffer they became. Eventually the photographer looked at them and admitted that it felt forced.

I asked the couple to shake it out, stop thinking about how they were standing and hold each other the way they normally would. That was enough. They looked like themselves again.

The light was already there. I took care of the composition.

They did not need more instructions. They needed fewer things to get right.

- WHERE

Aiste and John framed by the distinctive architecture of Brighton

Hamburg, Germany or elsewhere in Europe.

Your neighbourhood. A city you are visiting. A place you have always wanted to go. Or somewhere that already means something to your relationship.

The location should feel like yours. That is the only rule.

Before we meet, I send a few questions. Not to test whether you are serious. I want to know what feels natural between you and what you are unsure about.

It takes about ten minutes. It helps me arrive already paying attention.

ON BEING PHOTOGRAPHED

You are allowed to feel uncomfortable.

Being photographed creates a particular kind of awareness. Suddenly you can see yourself trying.

I am not waiting for you to become more confident, more relaxed or more photogenic.

We work with what is there until the camera is no longer the most important thing in the room.

Not improved. Not corrected. Still you.

Tell me what feels like yours.

A place, a half-formed idea or simply the feeling that now might be the time.
